Ulcanix + High Garunix

With this starting hand, you can take advantage of Fire King High Avatar Garunix's effect and use it to set up your board in the Standby Phase.

There are two lines you can perform here:

Sacred + High Garunix setup (with Promethean Princess in GY)

This line aims to pass on a Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames and Fire King Avatar Arvata - both of which will get destroyed by High Garunix in the Standby Phase, setting up Promethean Princess in the GY while also putting up 2 Level 8s on the field.

This combo plays into Nibiru, the Primal Being - read the section at the end for more details on how to recover.

Under Mulcharmy Fuwalos, your opponent draws 1 card.

Steps

  1. Normal Summon Fire King Courtier Ulcanix.
  2. Activate Ulcanix: destroy Fire King High Avatar Garunix, then add Legendary Fire King Ponix from your Deck to your hand.
  3. Activate Ponix: Special Summon it from your hand.
  4. Activate Ponix again: add Fire King Sanctuary from your Deck to your hand.
  5. Activate Sanctuary: place Fire King Island in the Field Zone.
  6. Activate Island: destroy Ponix, then add Sacred Fire King Garunix from your Deck to your hand.
  7. Activate Sacred: Special Summon it from your hand.
  8. Activate Sacred again: destroy Fire King Avatar Arvata in your Deck.
  9. Activate Arvata: Special Summon Ponix from the GY.
  10. Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames.
  11. Activate Promethean Princess; Special Summon Arvata from the GY.
  12. Pass turn.

Opponent's turn

  1. In the Standby Phase, activate High Garunix: Special Summon it from the GY.
  2. Activate High Garunix again: destroy all other monsters on the field.
  3. Do not activate Sacred's effect here! Instead, activate Arvata: Special Summon Sacred from the GY.
If Nibiru hits

On the 5th summon (step 10)

Nibiru will remove Promethean Princess before you get to Special Summon Arvata, meaning you are unable to get to the Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings setup.

Instead, your first interruption will now be Promethean Princess destroying High Garunix, and then in the next chain, you must also activate Sacred's effect to revive itself.

Sacred must then destroy Fire King High Avatar Kirin, which will Special Summon High Garunix, and destroy a card.

This basically forces you to use two interruptions at once, leaving you with Hyang as your last.

At the end of the Main Phase (step 12)

Negate with Arvata, destroying Promethean Princess! High Garunix will still destroy Arvata in the Standby Phase, letting you reach the Hyang setup just fine.

High Garunix setup (via Sunlight Wolf, with a FIRE monster back in your hand and Promethean Princess in GY)

Alternatively, you can set up a Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf and pass on it - Special Summoning High Garunix under its link will let you retrieve a FIRE monster from the GY, for additional interruption or follow-up.

In the video below, we will retrieve Legendary Fire King Ponix with Sunlight Wolf. This line is most useful when you already have another FIRE monster worth retrieving in your GY - for example an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring used to negate a Mulcharmy Fuwalos.

This combo plays into Nibiru, the Primal Being - read the section at the end for more details on how to recover.

  11. Activate Promethen Princess; Special Summon Arvata from the GY.
  12. Link Summon Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf.
  13. Pass turn.

Opponent's turn

  1. In the Standby Phase, activate High Garunix: Special Summon it from the GY, under Sunlight Wolf's link.
  2. A chain forms:
    • CL1: Activate High Garunix: destroy all other monsters on the field.
    • CL2: Activate Sunlight Wolf: add a FIRE monster from the GY to your hand. (Remember you cannot summon it this turn!)

As mentioned, this line is most useful when you already have another FIRE monster worth retrieving in your GY besides Ponix.

That said, if you want to specifically recover Ponix, you can also cut the combo short at step 11, Special Summoning Ponix instead of Arvata. High Garunix will destroy Ponix, making sure it returns to your hand on turn 3. A turn-long delay can be significant sometimes, so you might still go for Wolf in certain scenarios.

If Nibiru hits
Regardless of where Nibiru hits, it will prevent you from retrieving Ponix from the GY.

Nothing changes besides that - your first interruption will still be Promethean Princess destroying High Garunix.
